Rochester Police Department Hosts Open House

On Saturday, June 26, 2010 the Rochester Police Department will hold an open house for kids of all ages! Chief Steve Schettenhelm says that the third annual open house will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm.
The chief says that those attending can participate in the following activities:
- Station tours
- Evidence collection demonstrations
- Firearms displays
- Child safety seat demonstrations
- Bike rodeo
- Bike inspections courtesy of the Rochester Bike Shop
Other highlights of the day will included free toddler and youth sized bike helmets for those that are in need of them.
In addition, a paper shredding truck will be on site during the day for folks to drop off personal papers and documents that need to be securely destroyed. This service will help everyone cut down on identity theft that occurs when these papers fall into the wrong hands.

Rochester City Government is On-the-Air

Want to see your government in action? According to the City of Rochester:
You can watch City meetings live on cable television and at rochestermi.org. Meetings are broadcast live as part of the City’s ongoing effort to provide open access to City government. Meetings can be viewed on Comcast (61) or WOW (10).
The City currently broadcasts City Council, Planning Commission and Downtown Development Authority meetings. To view the meetings online live, or archived meetings at your convenience, go to rochestermi.org and click on “City Webcast.”

The City of Rochester is seeking interested volunteer to make up the board of directors of the newly created Principal Shopping District. You can learn more about this by visiting the city website.

The City is now accepting applications for those interested in being a member of the Principal Shopping District Board. The deadline to apply in July 6, 2010. To apply please fill out the City’s Boards and Commission Application and submit it in person or by mail to Lee Ann O’Connor, City Clerk at 400 6th Street, Rochester MI 48307. Please indicate if you would like to serve a 1, 2, 3 or 4 year term on the top of the application. Water Leak Closes University Drive
June 16th, 2010
City Manager Jaymes Vettraino discuss a water leak and a relatively large sink hole that closed West University Drive prior to the morning rush hour on Wednesday, June 16. City officials are hopeful that the eastbound lanes of University will be open by the time evening rush hour roles around. The actual leak is in the westbound lanes and it is not know when those lanes will be reopened.
